Thoughts On: Highschool of the Dead Episode 2

Actually looking at some other people comment on this Anime, they all seem to have same idea of "it was a good showcase of a zombie attack" which really, no complaint here. But anyways, Episode 2!I forgot to mention that they added the "This ain't no Video Game or Movie!" scene in the first episode that we all come to expect. It wasn't done well or anything, but I thought I'd just mention it... anyways.

The second episode was focused more on introducing other characters trying to survive and finding out a bit more on these scary zombies. Saya Takagi (bottom left) and Kota Hirano (upper right) are off doing there thing. Eventually, Saya brings Kota to some place with tools and he makes a bullet gun.Shizuka Marikawa (top right) and Saeko Busujima (bottom left) find themselves in the nurses office and it just so happens that Shizuka is the school nurse with these really big boobs. Anyways, they all plan an escape and eventually all meet up, along with Takashi and Rei (who also planned an escape) and your main characters are established.

Some things they noticed about the zombies are that since their bodies are technically dead, they have no senses... except for hearing... or maybe that's sonar? So at the very least, they can neither feel or see. Also their arms are super strong, which explains why everyone has a hard time getting free.

Aside from the character set up and more zombie killing, there was a scene where everyone was watching TV and news reports were showing the zombie attack. Well, at least I think. They never necessarily show the zombies. Most are in body bags and they do that wake up motion. So it at least leads you to believe everyone knows. I wouldn't be surprised if they (the government) tried to cover it up with some sort of story. Like its just Pink eye or something.

The episode didn't have much more going on. It pretty much just established the main characters. If you want to classify each one I'd guess it go like Kota: Gun guy, Shizuka: Medic, Saeko: Swordsman and the other three I have no idea. I'd probably say Saya: tsundere, Rei: whinny girl that's probably the lead female and Takashi: all round great guy. But I could be really wrong with the last three (especially since I don't really know what tsundere is).

Even despite what little story there is, I really really am not liking Rei. She will come off as a cry baby one moment, and a totally bad ass girl the next. The worst part was when she tried to call her dad with a cell phone and her dad couldn't hear her. Which left this sad looking face on her and it just got me really mad. I get that she's the lead female but c'mon, stop trying her to appeal to everyone.

Also, Rei and Takashi's relationship is still left in question. Are they together? Are they not? I mean, they did hug for a pretty long time on the last episode, so they should know where they stand right? But then as Rei and Takashi are escaping, Rei hands Takashi a bat and as he reaches for it they look away and Rei is all blushy. I know its probably Anime being Anime but what was that whole hug scene for? Also is Hisashi still a factor in all this? I mean, he's dead so is he just gone from the story and everyone's forgotten him? I hope Rei and Takashi's relationship delves deeper in the episodes to come.

The rest of the cast is alright. I dig Kota being the fat nerdy guy but can kick ass with a gun. Shizuka is the dumb nurse with big boobs who just so happens to also be the eldest. And Saya... well I don't really know where I stand with her. I guess her character type is needed.

The episodes have been a bit slow paced, which is good. And given its only episode 2 out of a 13 episode arc, it'll be interesting to see how this story develops.
