So I decided to update the blog again, I don't know why but I can never get used to a white background. Those of you who do use them; I totally respect you.
Anyways, it seems I will be writing for a new site. I'm not sure I'm allowed to say but they plan on launching some time near the end of the month. Yes, it is a video game website and yes it is voluntary. But talking to the boss makes it sound like he has a vision.
When I applied to be a writer I really had no clue at all the behind the scenes stuff that was going on. Like most new sites I thought it was just a simple word blog design of sorts. Little did I know that he has his own designer and other staff working on the innards of the site. From what it sounds like, their building this bad boy from scratch.
What's even weirder was that the owner sent out some PDF files with mission statements and how he expects the site to grow and so forth. At first I thought that these guys were all serious business... which they kinda are but you really do need that to actually achieve something.
So actually talking to the boss was something pretty unreal. He admits that doing the website wasn't his first thing on the list and he does have a day job. He originally wanted to be a video game producer but admitted that the cost of being one was rather low and the job he has now pays his bills. We talked a lot, primarily me asking him questions but he seems really down to Earth, he knows this thing could be a flop and admits that he will move on. He also admits that if the site does go in a direction he is comfortable with, he will leave it to the grunts to plan out the future.
Its kinda weird talking about all this stuff with him, especially when he sounded so very very professional. To be honest I was expect some guy who was all gung-ho about making the site and being very excited about it. Not saying that he is, but he knows a lot about this stuff and expects the worse.
By the end of the conversation, he asked me if I was scared after all the information given. Which in honesty I wasn't. I was more left in awe saying to my self "This guy is like... pro", so I feel it will be a bit intimidating working with him, not to mention a bunch of people from around the world I have that I have no clue who they really are. Which even the boss at some point "To be honest Chris, I don't know you and you don't know me" which I'm glad he said instead of trying to be all "instant friends" kind of deal.
So I'm sure your all wondering what exactly is going to happen with Viral Sugar. Or at least, some of you are. And to be honest... I don't really know. At the start of 2010 I decided to be more dedicated, I brought back The Week That Was, wrote some reviews and even started this whole video content thing with trailers and a Jack-In feature. It's cool and all but I already feel like those things are in its last legs. Jude hasn't gotten back to updating and constantly seeing my name over and over again is getting tiresome.
A lot of my focus now is on this new site so writing The Week That Was is a bit much for me. Maybe I'll make them super short posts, I don't know. And as much as I think Jack-In is an awesome concept... like I said in a previous post, If Viral Sugar just becomes a video/audio site; then fuck it.
That said, I'm sure I'll still be writing some reviews for Viral Sugar, as part of the new site, I can't use those reviews anywhere else =(. But I'm sure that some other people will be writing reviews that I intend to write. So I guess those will go to Viral Sugar.
